My Word for 2025
My word for 2025 is…
FOCUS.
One thing has become crystal clear to me lately — less is more.
In a world flooded with notifications, emails, and endless demands for our attention, it’s easy to fall into the trap of reacting to the noise rather than focusing on what truly matters.
But here’s the truth: eliminating distractions is the key to unlocking my highest potential—both personally and professionally.
The secret to achieving my goals in business, health, relationships, and spiritual growth is quite simple:
FOCUS.
The more I remove distractions—and eliminate people, places, activities, habits, tasks, routines, and anything else that drains my energy—the more space I create to think clearly, work deeply, and move with intention.
I stop letting the external world dictate my pace and instead create the conditions that allow me to thrive.
A Solitary Start To The New Year
Before stepping into 2025, I took a step back.
I chose solitude.
No parties, no countdowns, no dancing—just me, the sunrise, and the stillness of Eagle Rock in Topanga.
I began the year with a sunrise hike and my Kundalini practice in my favorite cave at the top of Eagle Rock. I turned off all social apps and spent a couple of days in deep reflection.
During this time, I asked myself several questions (all from Sahil Bloom’s Annual Review Template):
What did I change my mind on this year?
Successful people enjoy being wrong because it means they’re learning. What “software updates” did I adopt this year? What created energy this year?
Looking back at my calendar, which activities, people, or projects energized me? Did I give them enough time and attention? What drained energy this year?
Conversely, which people, tasks, or events consistently sapped my energy? Did I allow them to persist, or did I cut them off quickly?Who were the boat anchors in my life?
Boat anchors hold you back by belittling your ambition or harming the quality of your environment. Identify them and resolve to remove their negative influence. What did I avoid because of fear?
Fear often distorts reality. What was the real downside versus the upside? How can I face similar fears next year? What were my greatest hits and worst misses?
Take a balanced look at your wins and losses. Why did the hits succeed? Why did the misses fail? What did I learn this year?
Zoom out for perspective. Reflect on how these lessons shape your future.
This is the year I choose intentional alignment with my highest self.
This is the year I prioritize focus, and I’m excited to see the results it brings.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by distractions, maybe it’s time to do the same.
Focus isn’t just about productivity—it’s about intentionally creating the life you want to live by design.
Stop Obsessing Over Yearly Goals—Master Your Weekly Systems
It’s the first week of January, and everyone’s setting lofty goals for the year ahead.
But, success doesn’t come from one grand plan.
Rather, it’s built through intentional systems and consistent execution, week by week.
If you want real growth in 2025, try these three powerful practices.
1. Weekly Review (Sunday – 30 Minutes)
Reflection is the foundation of progress. Take 30 minutes every Sunday evening to evaluate the past week and plan for the next.
Ask yourself:
— What truly matters in my life right now? Am I dedicating enough energy to it?
— What gave me or created energy?
— What drained me of my energy?
— What should I have said no to?
— What could have been delegated, deleted, minimized, or automated?
Inspired by Sahil Bloom, this simple practice keeps you aligned with your priorities and helps you course-correct before small missteps become major detours.
2. Monday Hour One (Monday – 30–60 Minutes)
Take 30–60 minutes on Monday morning to plan your week with intention and focus.
— Plan Everything in Advance: Block out work tasks, personal commitments, and even downtime.
— Focus on Results Over Tasks: Choose actions that move the needle on your goals.
— Honor Your Calendar: Treat your schedule like a meeting with the CEO—because you are the CEO of your life.
— Minimize Decision Fatigue: Pre-plan your week to save mental energy for execution.
— Anticipate Obstacles: Identify potential roadblocks and plan solutions in advance.
So, how do you implement this?
Brain Dump: Write down everything you want or need to do during a 30-60 minute time block on Monday morning.
Sort by Priorities: Identify the most important results and the tasks required to achieve them. Choose the top three tasks for the week—your “needle-movers.”
Time Block: Assign specific times to specific tasks to ensure that all priorities are addressed. Use color-coded calendars for different task/activity categories (i.e. Business Meetings, Business Operations, Personal, Fun) to stay organized.
Stick to the Plan: Follow through with what you’ve scheduled, resisting the urge to deviate. Consistency is your power.
Inspired by Brooke Castillo, this powerful time management strategy is all about planning your week with precision and intention so that you can focus on execution.
3. Monthly Review (60 Minutes)
Once a month, spend an hour reflecting on your personal progress and growth this past month.
— What really matters right now in my life? Am I dedicating the necessary energy to it? Are my goals still aligned with this? Assess the quality of your goals and ensure that they still feel appropriate. When you’re in the trenches, it’s easy to lose sight of the important (and focus on the urgent). This question cuts through the noise.
— Are my current daily systems and habits aligned with my long-term goals? Assess the quality of your daily systems and whether they are helping to create the appropriate momentum. James Clear calls the daily systems the "oars" and the long-term goals the "rudders". Are you rowing efficiently on the course set by your rudders? If not, what adjustments can be made?
— What do I need to cut from my life to reduce drag and to operate more efficiently / accelerate progress? These might be activities that are draining my energy, tasks I’m dreading completing, tasks I should be delegating, or toxic habits or relationships. Ruthlessly eliminate what is holding you back.
Again, inspired by Sahil Bloom, this simple practice keeps you aligned with medium- to long-term goals and ensures that you’re making real-time course corrections as the year unfolds that will compound over time, leading to greater success and achievement in all areas of your life.
These systems aren’t just about productivity—they’re about creating intentionality, focus, clarity, and peace of mind.
