Did you just wake up feeling guilt or shame after overindulging this holiday season? Read this.
First things first – LET IT GO.
Guilt and shame over what you ate or drank the past two days will not serve you.
It won’t undo yesterday, and it certainly won’t help today.
Instead, let’s focus on how you can meet yourself with compassion and move forward from here.
HYDRATE
Start your morning with a big glass of water (add freshly squeezed lemon if you like). Overindulging—especially on heavy, rich foods or alcohol—can leave you dehydrated. Replenishing fluids will help your body reset.
EAT NOURISHING FOODS
Don’t skip meals. Instead, focus on fiber-rich, enzyme-rich, quick-exit, nutrient-dense, whole foods. Start with something light and alkalizing like fresh seasonal fruit, a green smoothie, or a cold-pressed green juice.
SUPPORT DIGESTION
Help your body process rich, heavy meals with gentle digestive aids. Sip on warm herbal teas like ginger, peppermint, or chamomile to soothe your stomach and support digestion, and incorporate digestive enzymes before your next meal.
MOVE YOUR BODY
A walk, a hike, some stretching, or gentle yoga can work wonders. Movement gets your blood flowing, your lymphatic system moving, boosts your mood, and helps shake off that sluggish, inflamed feeling.
GET OUTSIDE
If you can, step out into nature. The fresh air and sunlight can help reset your mind and body, leaving you feeling refreshed and re-centered.
PRIORITIZE SLEEP
Overindulgence can disrupt your sleep patterns, making you feel more tired and sluggish. Prioritize quality sleep by creating a calming evening routine, avoiding screens before bed, and aiming for 7-9 hours of rest.
PRACTICE MINDFUL BREATHING
Take 5-10 minutes to focus on deep, mindful breaths. This will help to calm your nervous system, reduce stress, and improve digestion.
JOURNAL OR REFLECT
Write down how you’re feeling physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and any lessons learned over the holiday season. Reflecting can help you move past any guilt and create a positive mindset for the days ahead.
RELEASE THE GUILT
Remember that one night (or even one week!) of indulgence will not define your health or undo your progress. It’s what you consistently do over time that matters most.
FOCUS ON THE BIGGER PICTURE
The holidays are about love, connection, and joy—not perfection. Acknowledge the memories you made and the moments you shared with your loved ones. That’s what truly matters.
SET A POSITIVE INTENTION
Instead of dwelling on yesterday, decide how you want to feel today. Set an intention to nourish you and your body, move forward with ease and compassion, and prioritize your health and well-being without guilt, shame, or judgment.
Overindulging happens to all of us—it’s part of being human.
One meal, one day, one holiday doesn’t define your journey—it’s just a small part of a bigger, beautiful life.
Be kind to yourself.
Now, the key is how you choose to move forward.
