We're literally drowning in micro and nano plastics.
They're Everywhere.
In our water—bottled and tap.
In the air we breathe.
In our food and its packaging.
In our clothing, bedding, furniture, and carpets.
In our cookware, utensils, and household products.
And, we wonder why fertility rates are plummeting.
These plastics are showing up in testicles, placenta, blood, lungs, breast milk, and ovaries.
They’re infiltrating our organs and overwhelming our bodies.
Scientists expect to find them in every part of the human body.
A new study suggests that the average human brain now contains about 7 grams of microplastics—roughly the weight of a disposable plastic spoon—with the highest concentrations found in individuals with dementia.
While the long-term health effects remain unclear, researchers are increasingly concerned about the potential impact of these plastics on brain function and overall health, as their presence in human organs continues to rise.
Beyond fertility, micro and nano plastics are linked to chronic disease, cardiovascular issues, cancer, and more.
Here Are 10 Ways To Reduce Your Daily Exposure Today
Eat more real, whole foods—less packaged, less processed. Stick to fresh, organic produce and unrefined ingredients to minimize exposure to additives, preservatives, chemicals, and other hidden toxins.
Swap plastic cookware, cutting boards, and utensils for wood, bamboo, cast iron, or stainless steel. Heated plastic can leach endocrine-disrupting chemicals into your food. I recommend XTrema (MEGHAN15 for 15% off) ceramic and Lodge cast iron cookware.
Use glass storage containers and bottles. Ditch plastic Tupperware and water bottles—especially if you're storing anything hot or acidic. Explore my Amazon storefront for some great options.
Ditch bottled water—opt for a high-quality reverse osmosis filter at home or buy natural spring or mineral water in glass bottles. Most bottled water is just glorified tap water in plastic. I personally recommend spring or mineral water in glass bottles from a trusted source like Alive Water (MEGHAN15 for 15% off) or Mountain Valley Spring Water, but also recommend the AquaTru (discount applied at checkout) reverse osmosis filter with a glass carafe.
Filter your air with a high-quality Ultra HEPA filter. Indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air due to VOCs from furniture, cleaning products, and artificial fragrances. I use an AirDoctor (discount applied at checkout) in every single room of my house, but also recommend Austin Air, Jaspr, and Molekule.
Wash your hands before meals—microplastics and other toxins shed from surfaces like keyboards, steering wheels, and door handles. Don’t let them make it to your food.
Cut back on synthetic clothing (polyester, nylon, etc.). These fabrics shed microplastics into the air and into your skin through sweat. Choose organic cotton, linen, wool, or hemp when possible.
Choose plastic-free produce and drink containers. Opt for fresh, unpackaged fruits and vegetables, and skip plastic-lined coffee cups.
Do not touch any receipts. Thermal paper receipts are coated in BPA or BPS, both of which absorb through the skin within seconds. Say "no receipt" whenever possible or ask for an emailed copy. If you must handle one, wash your hands immediately afterward.
Ditch artificial fragrances. That "clean" laundry scent or air freshener is actually a cocktail of unregulated chemicals, including endocrine disruptors. Switch to fragrance-free or essential oil-based alternatives. I recommend eco-friendly cleaners like Branch Basics (MEGHAN15 for 15% off) or Blueland (5-10% off applied at checkout).
You won’t eliminate it all, but you can reduce your exposure.
Every step counts.

I had no idea about the receipts! Great call out :)
Thank you for sharing, Meghan! This is a super helpful list. Do you have recommendations for plastic cutting board alternatives? I have a butcher block in my apartment that I like to keep something on top of to help preserve it. I’ve seen titanium, bamboo and rubber alternatives but unsure what’s really worth it! Would love any recs you have!
