Your tap water is not as safe as you think.
American tap water now contains over 270 harmful contaminants, including lead, chlorine, fluoride, nitrates, PFAS, microplastics, and arsenic.
Aging infrastructure, agricultural runoff, waste disposal, disinfection byproducts, and industrial pollution have all contributed to widespread contamination.
And, these contaminants are much harder to avoid than most people think.
Why? Two reasons:
We use water constantly—to drink, cook, shower, bathe, wash our hands, and even clean our faces.
There are so many sources of contamination: the water source itself, the processing and treatment facilities, municipal pipes, your building pipes, and your faucet.
Over 50% of Americans drink tap water daily, but most don’t realize that EPA standards for ‘safe’ drinking water are outdated and do not reflect current toxicology research. This means that millions are unknowingly consuming chemicals that may negatively impact their health and vitality in the long term.
Why Is Water So Important?
Pure water is the foundation of cellular health.
Your body is over 50% water.
Let me break it down:
Your brain and heart? 73% water.
Your lungs? 83%.
Your skin? 64%.
Even your bones? 31%.
Water isn’t just about hydration. It’s essential for:
Detoxification
Digestion
Energy production
Mental clarity
Your life force energy and vitality
Just remember that:
A few glasses of tap water per day won’t cut it.
Caffeine and alcohol dehydrate you.
Eating mostly dry, processed, dead, powder-heavy, or protein-heavy meals only makes it worse.
So, What Can You Do About It?
Stop drinking unfiltered tap water. That’s it—just stop. This simple change alone can make a massive impact on your health.
Check your water quality. Enter your ZIP code here for a full breakdown of what’s in your local tap water with a free Tap Water Quality Report powered by the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Tap Water Database to know your risk.
Do not consume plastic bottled water (ever). Plastic bottles can contain disinfection byproducts, fertilizer residue, caffeine, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and BPAs, not to mention the 240,000 nanoplastic particles per liter that recent research has revealed. Do your best to drink from glass or stainless steel containers whenever possible.
Invest in clean drinking water. For clean drinking water, I highly recommend either a reverse osmosis (RO) countertop or under-sink water filtration system or a high-quality spring water delivery service. I’ll dive into these below.
Filter other water sources. Remember that your skin absorbs contaminants when you shower or bathe. For other water sources, like showers and bathroom taps, I highly recommend a whole-house filtration system. It filters all water entering the home, helping to protect against dermal absorption and inhalation of contaminants. If that’s not feasible, a high-quality shower filter, like AquaTru (discount applied at checkout), Vitaclean (MEGHAN10 for 10% off), Jolie, or Pristine Hydro, can help reduce your exposure.
Start With Drinking Water
The easiest way to make sure you're drinking good water is to get it straight from a well-tested, trusted, pure source (in glass jugs!). Thankfully, there are a couple of great companies that offer spring water deliveries straight to your doorstep.
It's simple: you order a few jugs, use them with a dispenser, and then when you need more, you request a refresh, leave the empty jugs out front, and the delivery service swaps them.
It'll typically run you $30–45 per 5 gallons. Most people drink maybe 3/4 of a gallon each day, so a 5-gallon jug will last one person about a week.
If you're in or around Miami, Austin, the San Francisco Bay Area, LA/San Diego, or NY/NJ, I love and personally use Alive Water (MEGHAN15 for 15% off). The water is incredible, the service is smooth, and as a bonus, the jugs are beautiful.
If you're not in those areas (but are still in the US), Mountain Valley also offers a great service.
Alternatively, you can use a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration system.
I recommend the APEC ROES-PH75 6-stage system or AquaTru (discount applied at checkout), which both effectively remove up to 99% of contaminants, including heavy metals, fluoride, pesticides, PFAS, bacteria, viruses, chlorine, THMs, and other chemicals. Most standard home filtration systems do not remove fluoride.
Using Reverse Osmosis? Don’t Forget To Remineralize.
A reverse osmosis water filtration system is highly effective at removing contaminants, but it also strips beneficial minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium from water, which may require remineralization.
This makes the water more acidic, as the filtering process removes alkaline compounds, and can deplete your body of essential minerals that it needs to function properly.
Lack of mineral-rich water is linked to:
Fatigue, headaches, and cramps
Reduced bone density
Increased cardiovascular risk
So, when choosing any reverse osmosis system, make sure that it includes a remineralization component.
A great solution is to either add a remineralization cartridge to your RO system or to add electrolyte or trace mineral drops to your water before drinking it.
But, Water Contaminants Go Well Beyond Drinking.
Even if you're drinking great water, there are plenty of other ways for contaminants to get into your system. One of the most concerning ones is inhaling vapors from a hot shower or absorbing them through your skin.
Hot showers open up your pores and allow your skin to absorb more contaminants. Even worse, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like trihalomethanes (THMs) become airborne, making them easier to inhale.
A 10-minute shower can expose you to the same amount of chloroform as drinking 2 liters of chlorinated tap water.
The best way to deal with this (and the most comprehensive) is to install a good whole-house water filter. It's impossible to recommend a perfect whole-house filter for everyone because the contaminants in each person's water are different.
However, my top pick is Springwell Filters, also recommended by my trusted partner — Lightwork Home Health.
They are quite affordable compared to many other systems out there.
They remove a broad range of contaminant load across tap water, showers, laundry machines, and more.
They also handle PFAS (“forever chemicals”) effectively, which many other whole-house filters do not.
If you’re not quite ready to bite the bullet on a whole-house water filtration system, at least get a shower filter and use that to wash your face as well, as this can drastically reduce your exposure to chlorine, chloramines, and other contaminants while you shower. Try Pristine Hydro, AquaTru (discount applied at checkout), Vitaclean (MEGHAN10 for 10% off), or Jolie.

Ready To Detox Your Home?
Your water should nourish you, not poison you.
My friends at Lightwork Home Health recommend testing your water before installing a filtration system to understand exactly what’s in it. That way, the system you install can be customized to target the specific contaminants present in your home.
And, even if you already have a filtration system in place, they suggest conducting lab tests both before and after filtration. This helps to determine whether the filter is working effectively, if new contaminants are being introduced post-filtration, and whether any plumbing or bypass issues are allowing unfiltered water through.
In fact, Lightwork recently discovered arsenic and uranium in a home’s drinking water—even though it had an $8,000+ custom filtration system—simply because the system wasn’t installed correctly.
So, if you want to go deeper, I highly recommend working with Lightwork Home Health.
They test your home’s air quality, water quality, EMF exposure, light sources, water contaminants, mold, moisture, and more—giving you a data-driven roadmap for optimizing and detoxifying your environment for health and performance. Use my link for a special friends & family rate.

Have you heard of Clearly Filtered? They have a water filter that claims to filter out as much as AquaTru but it's not RO.
