Think you’re hydrated just because you’re drinking water?
Think again.
Hydration isn’t just about water intake.
It’s about what your cells can actually absorb and use.
You can drink a gallon a day and still be dehydrated at the cellular level, especially if you’re missing the minerals, electrolytes, and cofactors that help water actually get into your cells to do important work.
For real, deep cellular hydration, your body needs more than plain H20.
What It Really Takes to Hydrate at the Cellular Level
Here’s what you really need for deep cellular hydration:
Sodium + Chloride (think: unrefined sea salt) — Crucial for fluid balance, adrenal health, and nerve signaling.
Potassium (in citrus, coconut water, leafy greens) — Regulates water retention inside the cells and also supports muscles and blood pressure.
Magnesium (found in cacao, pumpkin seeds, mineral powders) — Key for energy, detox, and over 300 enzymatic processes.
Calcium (from greens, sesame seeds, seaweed) — Helps with muscle and nerve function.
Trace minerals (zinc, copper, selenium, manganese) — Small but mighty, these support mitochondrial function, detox pathways, and hormone balance.
Cofactors (like vitamin C, B vitamins, and enzymes) — Drive mineral absorption, transport, and cellular utilization.
Without these, water just passes right through you, leaving you bloated, fatigued, crampy, foggy, or constipated.
My Go-To Formula — Nature’s Gatorade
That’s why I always recommend the following:
Mineral-rich spring water (like Alive Water (MEGHAN15 for 15% off) or Mountain Valley)
A pinch of high-quality sea salt (Baja Gold, Redmond, or Celtic)
A squeeze of fresh lemon
You can also add trace mineral drops, a splash of coconut water, a touch of raw honey, a few drops of chlorophyll, fulvic & humic minerals, or shilajit drops for added benefits.
No dyes.
No chemicals.
No sugar.
No additives.
Just deep cellular hydration—the kind your detox organs actually need to do their job.
Because the lymph, liver, and kidneys can’t eliminate toxins efficiently without the right internal chemistry.
Hydration is foundational to any true detox.
So, remember that hydration isn’t about how much you drink.
It’s about what your body can actually use.
The next time you reach for a glass of plain water, ask yourself: Am I actually hydrating or just drinking?
By the way, you should aim for about half your body weight in ounces per day through both water and hydrating whole foods.
And yes, quality matters just as much as quantity.

I do have a question: what is your opinion on tap water?
I know you can only give generalised advice but for someone with PCOS and quite a lot of hormonal dysregulation would a trace mineral supp in the form of a capsule be appropriate?
