Cold and flu season has arrived, and most people are wildly unprepared.
If you’re already feeling run down, especially after the holidays, you’re not alone — and it’s not a personal failure.
Winter is nature’s cue to slow down, simplify, and support the body from within.
This is the time to listen more closely, conserve energy, and strengthen your internal foundation before the deeper months of winter arrive.
Before reaching for over-the-counter fixes, here are gentle, natural ways to support your body and immune system right now:
Lighten your diet.
Stick to simple, easy-to-digest, quick-exit foods, or try intermittent fasting, juices, broths, herbal teas, or even light fasting if it feels supportive.
If you don’t have much of an appetite, trust that signal. Your body often reduces hunger so that it can redirect energy toward healing and repair.
Hydration is foundational.
Drink plenty of water, coconut water, herbal teas, broths, or cold-pressed green juices. Adding minerals or electrolytes can help replenish and support your cells, especially if you’re feeling depleted.
Use heat to support detox.
If you’re in the early stages of feeling run down, sauna or steam can help encourage circulation and support detox pathways. If you’re already very sick, skip this — heat is best used preventatively or at the very beginning of symptoms.
Drink “nature’s antibiotic”.
A simple, powerful immune tonic:
Hot water
Manuka honey
Lemon
Fresh ginger
Turmeric
For an extra boost, try a tablespoon of fire cider (apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, onion, turmeric, cayenne). It’s intense, but effective.
Cleanse your tongue.
Tongue scraping first thing in the morning with a copper or stainless steel tongue scraper helps remove bacteria and toxins, supports digestion, and strengthens immune health. Simple, underrated, powerful.
Sleep is not optional right now.
Your body heals while you rest. If you’re tired, listen. Cancel plans. Go to bed early. Recovery requires space.
Flush your sinuses.
Use a neti pot or saline nasal rinse to clear out congestion and pathogens from the nasal cavity, especially if you’ve been traveling, around others who are sick, or feeling sinus pressure.
Your lymphatic system is your body’s drainage system.
Support it with:
Dry brushing
Light rebounding
Gentle stretching, yoga, or walking
Gua sha or fascia release
Movement doesn’t need to be intense to be effective.
Chronic stress suppresses immunity.
Breathwork, meditation, mindfulness practices, time in nature, or even a few minutes of stillness can dramatically shift how your body responds to seasonal stressors.
Natural light helps regulate circadian rhythm and supports vitamin D production — both essential for immune health.
Support with immune-boosting supplements (if needed).
Here are some supportive options:
Liposomal Vitamin C
Elderberry
Zinc
Magnesium
NAC
Oregano oil
Vitamin D3 + K2
CoQ10
(Always listen to your body and consult a practitioner if unsure.)
Add adaptogens & fermented foods.
Adaptogens like ashwagandha, holy basil, and reishi support stress resilience.
Fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, or kefir support gut health, which plays a huge role in immunity.
This season isn’t about perfection.
It’s about preparation.
It’s about listening.
It’s about supporting your body before it starts asking louder.
When you care for your body consistently, it shows up for you in return.

Sooo big on the herbal teas! Even if they don’t really relieve any of my other symptoms I always feel like I can finally breathe properly again after drinking one
