Something is happening in the wellness world right now that I want to be honest about.

People are injecting peptides they bought online.

BPC-157.

TB-500.

CJC-1295.

Melanotan.

Retatrutide.

From research chemical websites.

Labeled “not for human consumption”.

No physician oversight.

No quality testing.

No idea what’s actually in the vial.

This isn’t a fringe thing anymore.

It’s literally everywhere…in biohacking forums, on podcasts, in the DMs of people who are desperate to heal and have run out of conventional options.

And, this past week, Health Canada issued a public advisory warning people to stop.

Their analysis of gray-market peptide products found contamination with bacterial endotoxins, wrong compounds entirely, heavy metals, and solvents.

Not in theory.

In the actual products people are currently injecting.

In 2023, the FDA classified 19 popular peptides as Category 2 — effectively banning compounding pharmacies from preparing them. The stated reason: insufficient human clinical data and safety concerns. The wellness community erupted. And when the legal supply disappeared, people didn’t stop wanting these compounds. They went underground.

On February 27, RFK Jr. announced on Joe Rogan that approximately 14 of those 19 peptides are expected to be reclassified, restoring the legal pathway for physician-prescribed, pharmacy-grade access.

The formal FDA list still hasn’t been published, which means compounding pharmacies still can’t dispense them and that the gray market is still where most people are going.

I want to be clear about where I stand: I am genuinely not opposed to peptides whatsoever.

The preclinical science on BPC-157 for gut healing and tissue repair is interesting.

Thymosin Alpha-1 is approved as a pharmaceutical in over 30 countries.

Some of these compounds have real biological rationale and deserve proper clinical investigation.

The reclassification, when it comes, is a meaningful step, not because it validates the compounds as proven treatments, but because pharmaceutical-grade, physician-supervised access is categorically safer than a vial from an unverified vendor.

But “better than buying from a research chemical website” is a very low bar.

BPC-157 has fewer than 30 total humans studied across all published research.

TB-500 has zero completed human randomized controlled trials.

The only Phase I safety trial for BPC-157 was cancelled in 2016, and the results were never published.

The people using these compounds aren’t reckless.

They’re desperate — desperate to heal when conventional medicine has failed them.

And, that’s completely understandable.

But injecting an unknown compound with no human clinical data and no quality verification into your body is not biohacking.

It’s a gamble.

And right now, a lot of people are taking it without fully understanding the odds.
