I'm hosting a free 60-minute live (and recorded) Detox Masterclass on Tuesday, September 8. If this essay resonates, that's the deeper version. Details at the bottom. Save your spot here.
I got a DM last week that I keep thinking about.
She’d been reading everything I write for over a year. She’d tried every protocol I’d talked about — coffee enemas, castor oil packs, fiber-rich whole foods, mineral repletion, colonics. She’d bought supplements, tried fasting, sweated in saunas, tracked her cycle, and so on. She wrote:
“I’ve done everything you’ve said, and I’m still not better. I’m actually worse than when I started. What am I doing wrong?”
She wasn’t doing anything wrong.
She was doing everything right.
In the wrong order.
The human body detoxifies in a specific biological sequence. Most wellness content skips that fact entirely.
It’s not a menu you can order from or a checklist you can tackle in any order.
It’s a system with rules, and one of the most important rules is this:
You can’t mobilize what you can’t eliminate.
If any of this is already ringing a bell, I’m walking through the full framework live (and recorded) on September 8. More on that below.
Every protocol you've heard of (parasite cleanses, mold binders, heavy metal chelation, liver detox) MOBILIZES things in the body.
They pull toxins out of tissues, out of cells, out of the places they’ve been hiding. So, that’s the “release” part.
But, mobilization without elimination is worse than doing nothing. If you pull mercury out of your fat cells and your bile duct is sluggish, your colon is backed up, and your lymph isn’t moving, that mercury doesn’t leave.
It recirculates and redeposits, often somewhere more sensitive than where it started.
This is why so many people feel WORSE when they start "detoxing". They skipped the foundational work of opening the drainage pathways and went straight to the deep stuff their body wasn't ready for.
The "detox reactions" and "die-off" language is often a rebrand of that same mistake.
The order matters more than the protocol.
The DM I got was from someone who did every advanced protocol without ever addressing Phase 1: foundational drainage.
Her colon wasn’t moving daily, her lymph was congested, her bile was thick, and she was hitting it with parasite herbs and heavy metal binders.
Of course she felt worse…
Her body was doing exactly what any body would do in that situation.
The correct sequence is boring compared to what most people want to hear.
Nobody sells a course called “learn to have a bowel movement every day”.
Nobody makes viral content about drinking enough water and moving your lymph.
The exciting content is about parasites people are shocked to learn are inside them, mold in their homes, or heavy metals accumulated from decades of exposure.
But, the exciting content is Phases 4 and 5. And, you can’t skip to Phase 4 and 5.
Here’s what actually works:
Phase 1 — Foundational Drainage + Colon. The exits open first. This is where you establish daily bowel movements, functional kidney output, moving lymph, adequate hydration, and nervous system regulation before you attempt anything else. In my practice, most people need to spend real time here before their body is ready for any deeper work.
Phase 2 — Gut + Terrain Rebuild. Next comes restoring the gut lining, rebuilding stomach acid, enzymes, and bile flow, and repopulating the microbiome. This is the place where nutrients are actually absorbed and where 70% of your immune system lives, which means everything downstream depends on it working.
Phase 3 — Liver + Kidney + Gallbladder. Now, you can start supporting the organs that do the heavy lifting on hormone clearance, blood sugar regulation, and toxin processing. This is the phase where hormonal chaos, thyroid dysfunction, skin issues, and mood begin to shift, because the systems responsible for them are finally being addressed instead of overloaded.
Phase 4 — Parasites + Pathogens. Now (and only now) can you start addressing the deeper terrain. Because the exits are open and the processor is working, what you mobilize at this stage can actually leave the body instead of recirculating and redepositing somewhere worse.
Phase 5 — Mold + Heavy Metals. This is the deepest work. It requires binders matched to specific toxins, mineral repletion protocols, and targeted support that only makes sense once everything above it is functioning. Also…only now.
Then, there’s Integration: the ongoing work of holding what you’ve built, including remineralizing and sustaining. This is not a phase, but the arc that makes everything permanent.
You now know the sequence exists, but you don’t know where you are in it.
And, that’s the only question that changes what you do tomorrow morning.
That’s what the masterclass is for.
Tuesday, September 8 · 4-5 PM PT / 7-8 PM ET · Live on Zoom · Free · Recorded for 48 hours
I’ll take you through how to identify which phase you’re actually in, the most common mistakes I see at each one, and a liver deep-dive on why hormone, thyroid, skin and blood sugar issues keep tracing back to the same organ.
Amanda came to me bedridden two weeks out of every month with adenomyosis. We started at Phase 1, in order. Her OBGYN recently confirmed she has no symptoms and that the cysts and fibroids are gone. She’s been symptom-free for two and a half years, and she wrote about it herself, here.
The recording is yours for 48 hours if you can’t make it live. Three things only happen live: the Free Drainage Starter Guide, the 15 minutes of Q&A, and priority access to The Foundation, the 12-week group program I open for enrollment after the class.
To the person who sent me that DM: this is my answer, in full. Thank you for asking the question I’ve been wanting to write about. You made this happen.
To everyone else: don’t miss the masterclass. You’ll leave knowing which phase you’re in.
Be well,
Meghan
