Cold & flu season is here, and most people are wildly unprepared.
If you're feeling run down already, it’s not just you—it’s the season.
Rather, it's nature’s reminder to slow down, take a break, simplify, and support your body from within before winter arrives.
Before reaching for conventional over-the-counter remedies, consider these natural strategies to help you and your body stay strong this fall:
Lighten your diet.
Stick to quick-exit foods, or try intermittent fasting, juices, broths, herbal teas, or even water fasting. Giving your digestive system a break allows your body to focus on deeper healing and restoration. No appetite? There’s a reason for that. Don’t force it, and trust your body’s cues.
Hydrate with water, coconut water, broths, herbal teas, and cold-pressed vegetable/green juices. Adding minerals or electrolytes can help replenish and support your cells.
Detox with heat.
If you’re in the early stages of sickness, try a sauna (dry heat or infrared) or steam room to sweat out toxins and keep your detox pathways open. Skip this if you’re very sick, as it’s most effective early on or as a general immune booster.
Drink “nature’s antibiotic”.
Sip on a warm, potent blend of hot water, Manuka honey, lemon, freshly minced ginger, and turmeric to naturally support your immune system. Want to take it a step further? Try a tablespoon of fire cider—a spicy immune tonic made from raw apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, turmeric, onion, and cayenne. It’s spicy, potent, and powerful.
Cleanse your tongue.
Use a copper or stainless steel tongue scraper first thing in the morning to remove bacteria, buildup, and toxins from your tongue. It’s one of the simplest daily detox rituals—and further supports gut and immune health.
Prioritize rest.
Your body needs extra sleep to recover—don’t skimp on it. If you feel tired, allow your body to rest.
Flush your sinuses.
Use a neti pot or saline nasal rinse to clear out congestion and pathogens from the nasal cavity, especially if you’ve been flying, around sick people, or feeling sinus pressure.
Move your lymph.
Support lymphatic flow with dry brushing, rebounding (mini trampoline), gua sha on the body, light fascia release, or light movement like stretching, yoga, or a short walk. Your lymph is your immune system’s drainage system—keep it flowing.
Stress weakens your immune system. Consider meditation, breathwork, or mindfulness practices to clear mental clutter and promote resilience.
A bit of sunshine boosts vitamin D and helps fight off illness.
Take immune-boosting supplements.
Consider supplements like Wellness Formula (my favorite!), Liposomal Vitamin C, Elderberry, Zinc, Magnesium, NAC, Oregano Oil, Echinacea, COQ10, and Vitamin D3 + K2 to fortify your system.
Incorporate adaptogens and fermented foods.
Herbs like ashwagandha, holy basil, or reishi mushroom as well as probiotic-rich foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, and kefir can help balance stress and further support immune function during seasonal changes.
Again, fall is the perfect time to strengthen your foundation so that your body can carry you with more energy, clarity, and immunity into the colder months.
It isn’t about perfection—it’s about preparation.
It’s about listening more deeply to your body, tuning in to your environment, and giving your system what it needs to stay strong.
Your body will thank you later.
