Four years ago (technically two weeks ago today), I made a decision that transformed my life…
physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and energetically.
It started right after my birthday weekend in New York in early December 2021.
I had a couple of drinks at dinner for several nights in a row, and woke up on Sunday morning feeling off — anxious, low, out of alignment, and disconnected from myself.
So, I gave up alcohol for 30 days.
That’s it.
That was the whole intention.
Just a simple reset.
A small experiment.
A curiosity check.
That 30 days has now turned into four years.
Not because I had a “problem” with alcohol.
Not because I hit rock bottom.
Not because it was trendy and cool (even though it clearly is now).
Not because anyone told me to do it.
But rather, because removing it showed me a level of energy, vitality, clarity, and alignment I didn’t even know I was capable of (or that I had access to).
I didn’t stop because alcohol was destroying my life.
I stopped because it wasn’t adding to my life.
It wasn’t elevating me.
It wasn’t expanding me.
It wasn’t supporting the woman I was becoming.
And, that distinction matters.
You don’t need to be “addicted” to something for it to be holding you back.
So, if you’re curious about something in your life, whether it’s food, work, coffee, sugar, alcohol, or anything else (yes, even something considered “good”), it’s worth questioning your relationship with it.
Not from a place of guilt, shame, restriction, or perfection.
But from a place of self-love, compassion, and awareness.
You can’t fully understand your relationship with something when you’re inside of it.
You only see it clearly when you step away.
And, you don’t need to have a “problem” with something for it to be holding you back.
If you really want to understand its impact, remove it.
Maybe not forever.
Just long enough to listen.
Just long enough to see how your body, your mood, your energy, and your intuition shift without it.
Thirty days was all it took for me to realize I felt more myself without it than I ever did with it.
The four years were simply the natural result of that alignment.
If you’re feeling curious heading into 2026… try the 30 days and see what happens.
Consider this your invitation.
You might surprise yourself.

Thank you for writing this post, I resonate with this a lot and have been trying to give up drinking alcohol. I have done but on occasion I do have a glass or two but very rare. Are you completely sober for the whole time?
Meghan I love how you started this with focusing in on your relationship with alcohol, but extended it to apply to anything in your life. And spot on with your point about how it doesn't necessarily need to be a "problem" but anything that's giving you pause could be worth evaluating! Perfect mindset heading into 2026.
