Several weeks ago, I co-hosted a Scan Party in Los Angeles with BeSound, alongside Bailey Renger, the founder of BeSound, and Lavinia Errico, the founder of Equinox, founder of JOYLIFT, and a fellow investor in the company.
It was an intimate, powerful evening centered on one thing: women prioritizing their health together.
I spoke about detox, specifically how modern toxic load, chronic inflammation, and impaired elimination quietly set the stage for disease over time, and why supporting the body’s natural detox pathways is foundational.
But honestly, what stayed with me most wasn’t what I shared.
It was what so many women told me afterwards.
Again and again, I heard some version of:
“I didn’t know the full-body MRI scan I recently did doesn’t actually screen for breast cancer.”
That stopped me.
We assume we’re covered.
We assume someone is looking out for us.
We assume “preventative” means comprehensive.
Sometimes, it doesn’t.
What I loved most about the night was the energy — women learning together, asking questions out loud, taking action in real time (some even getting their first scans that evening), and choosing to pay attention before something feels urgent.
This is what preventative health should feel like.

A few days later, I had my own first breast ultrasound with BeSound.
I’m sharing this because it feels really important, and because most women are simply not told what they should know.
About 40–50% of women (!!!) have dense breast tissue.
Mammograms miss up to 50% of cancers in dense tissue and “full-body” MRIs are not enough. BeSound fills that gap, making carly detection more possible than ever.
Dense breasts make it harder for mammograms to detect cancer, meaning cancers can be missed, especially in younger women.
I have dense breasts.
I had absolutely no idea before this scan.
I also met a woman in her 60s who had dense breasts and had never been told before her scan.
This is not rare.
It’s common.
And yet, it’s barely discussed.

What impressed me most about BeSound’s ultrasound technology (and one of the reasons I chose to invest in the company) is that it’s:
Completely radiation-free
Better at visualizing dense breast tissue
Able to detect abnormalities mammograms can easily overlook
Focused on earlier, more accurate detection, not just routine screening
And, perhaps most surprising of all:
Most full-body MRIs do not screen for breast cancer.
And, mammograms miss up to 50% of cancers in dense breast tissue.
So many women believe they’re “covered” when they’re actually not.
When breast cancer is caught early enough, ~99% of cases are survivable.
Early detection changes everything: outcomes, treatment intensity, survival, and peace of mind.
More than anything, I’m deeply proud of Bailey and the BeSound team for empowering women to be proactive, informed, and ahead of their health, not reactive.

So many women assume preventative care is comprehensive simply because no one tells them otherwise, and that gap in information can carry real consequences. Learning something foundational about your own body after years of routine care is both empowering and unsettling at the same time. Conversations like this matter because they move women from passive participation to informed decision-making. The collective aspect you described, women learning side by side and asking questions openly, is where health education actually sticks. Awareness changes behavior long before any diagnosis ever does.
I didn't know this either. Thanks for sharing this important information!
